CAMP INFO
The Laboratory Theater of Florida takes a "whole actor" approach to acting. In addition to physical theater, stage combat, voice modulation, blocking, stagecraft, and scene study, students also learn the basics of set design, lighting elements, lighting design, costuming, stage makeup, stage management, and theater etiquette and best practices. And, of course, theater games. Acting is FUN!
The camp culminates in a professional production of Trap by Stephen Gregg, which runs for three performances the weekend of July 15th. Speaking parts are available for all ages, abilities, genders, and ethnicities within the camp range.
The theater follows both the CDC and the School District of Lee County guidelines regarding the pandemic. This camp is limited to 16 students, ages 11-17, which guarantees an abundance of one-on-one instruction and allows us to keep the students as safe as possible. The theater will consider actors outside this age range on a case-by-case basis and readiness assessment.
Students will need to sign and follow the theater's Pandemic Protocol as this is a full production.
Trap by Steven Gregg is a creepily delightful, documentary-style thriller play based on research into the strange happenings of Menachap, California, where every member of a middle school play in 2019 fell unconscious. Using interviews with witnesses, first responders, and scientists involved in the strange case, the audience feels as if they're living through the events themselves… whether they want to or not.
Please complete a registration form for each camper. Students will not be allowed to stay without signed registration and hold harmless release forms. If registering multiple students, please choose "First Camper" for the first and "sibling" for the others.
Weekly tuition option on request.
